Well this is New

Bob's new quirk --is eating items that he finds. A kleenex, toilet paper, a button, a napkin, lint, a marble..if it fits in his mouth he will try to eat it. You have to watch him like a hawk. And NO-- he is not hungry..
He eats food fairly well still. So far he is maintaining a reasonable appetite. Apparently we are adding more fiber.. :)
Do you have any idea how hard it is to "man " proof your house..?

Manliness

I try to let Bob do as much as possible for himself. Today he was trying to open a Jar and after watching him struggle with it for a few minutes I could see his frustration setting in, I said "Do you want  me to help you with that? Sometimes they put the lids on stuff way too tight." He handed me the jar and I popped it open and as I handed it back I said. "Well, look at that. You must have loosened it for me".
I could visibly see his chest swell as he gained back his "manliness" from that one little statement. A reminder that just a simple gesture or statement can make him feel so good!

Appetite

Bob's appetite for healthy food is sorely lacking these days. Before he sits down to eat his meals he always says. "But I'm not hungry"..Sometimes he will eat-- sometimes he wont.
Last night he didnt want to eat dinner because " I am not even a little bit hungry"
I said--" Well you are going to be disappointed later when I am eating ice cream and you wont get any because you didnt eat any dinner.. ( okay- Bribery works ---sometimes).
Ice cream is one of his very favorite treats. Last night he said.
"I hate Ice cream- you should know that"
Really? I Wonder who ate all that Caramel Caribou Ice cream when I wasn't looking.

Smokin'

Ahhhh The summer smokin' season has begun.  We love smoked meats and in the last week we have fired up the smoker, once for Ribs, and today a Brisket.
Apparently Bob forgets that we have the smoker going because every 5 minutes or so he says " Do you smell something burning?" Or , " There must be a forest fire somewhere".  And My favorite of the day " Some idiot in the neighborhood is burning their fireplace, can you believe it?"
LOL.  Yep,  I be that idiot!

Are we there yet?

When I am driving Bob anywhere he is very impatient and fidgety. Constantly wanting to know How much further, or how much longer, or are we there yet.?
Today we went to a store that is 15 minutes from our house. Right next door is a most awesome Mexican Restaurant. ( I love Mexican food).
The minute we pulled away from the house Bob started in.. How much longer? Are we there yet? How far do we have to go? We've been driving forever!
I pulled up to the store and because it was busy I had to park a little further down in front of the Mexican restaurant.
Bob looked at the graphics on the sign and designs on the building and said.. I Knew it.. Now we are in Mexico. I hope you know how to get back home... I should have just stayed home.
Oy!

Happy Anniversary

Today I got up at 5:00am to make some Homemade cinnamon rolls for Bob. Its one of his favorite things and today is our Anniversary.
I got those Gooey buns all iced and set a plate of nice warm rolls in front of him with his morning coffee. I said " Happy Anniversary Hon". He said. "Thanks"
I went back to the kitchen and grabbed my coffee and sat down for a few minutes while I waited for him to finish.
He said " Is today my birthday?".
I said " No Today is our Anniversary"
He said
" Oh-- How old am I now?"
I guess at least the Cinnamon rolls made him realize it was a special day!
 Happy Anniversary Bob!

An Apple a Day

Yesterday was a pretty good day. I started the day by finishing up a custom jewelry order-- got it shipped.
I then dug out about 20 Lbs of apples so I could can some sliced apples for pies and such. I asked Bob if he wanted to help me slice and peel the apples.
Of course he said-- Yes! He LOVES apples.
I like to use a Mixture of apples- some tart- some sweet- and I had a variety of 3 kinds- Some Roma's, some Pink Ladys and Granny Smith's.
Bob kept Putting away the Granny's because -- "These  Are Not ripe yet".
No Babe, they are suppose to be green-- those are Granny Smith's.. To which he replied- "When did she give them to you? Do I know her?   :)

20 Jars of apple slices canned!  Took twice as long as it should have- But it kept us busy, and we are gonna have lots of pie this winter.

Shopping- What a Hassle

I am no longer comfortable leaving Bob home alone- even for a few minutes let alone long enough to go grocery shopping.  So Bob has to go with me- which he doesn't mind. But me? Not so fond of it.
I have to watch the man like a hawk. He adds things to the cart when I am not looking, and here lately he is putting things in his coat pockets that he wants.
The last trip to the store at the checkout ( knowing that he now pockets things)  I casually checked his pockets- One Idaho Spud candy bar- and one package of 1" wood screws. Both of which I put on the Conveyor belt to be paid for-- I wanted  No chance at all of a security guy coming at us at the door- (Although sitting in on that "grilling" could be more then just a little entertaining, I'm picturing a "who's on first scenario") But-- Like I said-- Better to pay for Pocket items!
Now for all of the "extras" that were in the cart- (that I didnt add-)
One Tube of "Snail shells"   ( must be planning on having a little escargot?) gag!
1 package of birthday Cake decorations ( Those really hard crunchy letter thing-a-ma-bobs)
1 dobber of White shoe polish- (Huh?)
I can of Spaghettio's ( weird-- but ok)
and a book about Breastfeeding  (What the HELL?)

I let him keep the spaghettio's ---the rest of it --well-- lets just say --they were left behind to end up in another persons cart.
When we got home Bob was helping me put the groceries away and he saw the can of Spaghettio's and he said- " Aren't the boys getting a little old for these?
Oh-- and the Idaho Spud Candy bar?-- I was informed that he HATES those when we got home-- and the wood screws?--well why would you buy these-- we have a great big coffee can full of these in the basement--
Next time just ask me if you need some-
OY!

No More Coffee?

Yep- That was this mornings announcement. Bob told me he was no longer going to drink coffee because it was giving him diarrhea.
Me- I dont think its the coffee- You have always had coffee without that problem.
Him- I KNOW its the coffee
Me- Are you sure its not the bag of Halloween Candy You smuggled out of the kitchen.
Him- I dont know what you are talking about.
Me- I'm guessing you have eaten about a LB of chocolate in the last 48 hours
Him- Chocolate doesnt cause diahrrea.
Me- If you say so- But think about it. I'm guessing you ate the whole bag--Right?
Him- Not quite.
Me-- MMMM well- I'd take it easy on that , unless you want to live in the bathroom.
Him- Its the coffee, dont make me coffee in the morning

Note to self-- Next time- Hide the candy a little deeper~

Foggy Day

In more ways then one.  The fog outside is really hanging on this morning. Its thick and Dark and it is going to take awhile to burn off this morning. The fog in Bobs head is almost as thick this morning as well. He had his breakfast and his meds. 15 minutes after he was done he was making his breakfast again. I said-
Are you still hungry?
Him- I haven't eaten since last night, I'm starving.
Me- Are you SURE you're hungry?
Him- Well- I am not really hungry but I had better eat something.
Me- Well you already ate, maybe that's why you're not hungry. If you want a little something else there is a bearclaw by the microwave.
Him- I think I'll make pancakes.
Me- I didnt know you knew how to make pancakes.
Him- I dont- I think I'll have a bearclaw.
Me-   :) That sounds good!

Pick your battles Lori- This food one is crazy.  He is hiding food. I made 3 loaves of Beer Bread a few weeks ago. They were on the counter cooling as I was back working in my studio.  I came out to wrap them and found only 2 loaves. I said-- did you move the other loaf of bread. He said- Bread? What bread..
Anyway- a little later in the day I saw bread crumbs on his shirt. He had just come in from his workshop. LOL.  Guess I know where the bread went- and the potato chips- and the ritz crackers--and the Peanut butter..And who knows what else that I haven't discovered. ( Note to self- Go check his food hoard and make sure none of it is perishable.)
I also bought some cookies and some Candies for some Halloween treats that Carrson ( 5  year old Grandson) and I are going to make up this weekend while he is here. I Found the cookies where I put them but the candies are no where to be seen.  Guessing they are out in his shop too.
Guess- I'll be making a Shopping run before Carr gets here this afternoon.
I asked Bob-- what sounds good for dinner-- He said Macaroni salad-- Thats the first time he has had an opinion on what to have for dinner in along time. I think I'll make some Ribs to go with it..
Tonight we'll be carving some of the Punkin's to decorate the front deck.! Fun Times ahead!
